Here is just a part of Josh's inspirational speech that got the crowd cheering... "I know the popular advice in commencement speeches is "follow your hear" but that's only half the story. Your heart is your compass. Let it guide you. It's your drive that will take you places: Figure out what you want to do, then work your tail off to get there".
Legions of dedicated volunteers, faculty and staff made the 100th commencement an unforgettable event. Kudos to Heidi Bunkowske and her team for pulling off this stellar ceremony. After the AIGA San Diego portfolio review our program held a celebration in honor of Josh Higgins and the 2014 SDCC Graphic Design graduates.

Journey of the 2014 Commencement Speaker: Josh Higgins
On May 23, 2014 San Diego City College will celebrate our 100th commencement. The centennial commencement speaker is one of our own. Josh Higgins, a City College graphic design graduate, talks about his incredible journey to become Design Director of the 2012 Obama re-election campaign and his time at City College. This wonderful video was a collaboration between San Diego City College Graphic Design & Radio TV students Aliya Bora & Cassarah Coffey. Kudos to them for their fantastic work on this video.

UNITE- So stoked!
Thanks to everyone for coming out to PLNU this past Friday. UNITE was such an incredible event this year-best ever.
Thanks to education chair and SDCC faculty member MaeLin Levine for all her efforts to make the evening a smashing success. Sharing a snapshot of Josh Higgins [Design Director for the Obama 2012 campaign and SDCC alumni] and the Love Team from City College Graphic Design.
Thanks to everyone who showed up to get inspired by one of our own who takes Design for Good to new heights.
Here are some shots of his presentation including the buttons his staff made for Josh highlighting the SO CAL slang he used to critique their work. Our favorite button was in the previous slide:
I KERN FOR OBAMA.
Can't wait to see Josh speak at the Y Conference this year!

Wanted to celebrate a very special alumni. Many amazing young designers of all ages and life experiences have studied graphic design with us at San Diego City College. This post is for all those students who have spent time at this humble place [T310 and T309-you know what I mean] and all those who will be with us in the future.
Josh Higgins was chosen from a sea of talent because of his extraordinary design skill, personal vision and genuine character to be the Design Director for the Obama 2012 campaign. He delivered. Josh will be a speaker at next year's AIGA Y Design Conference and I hope our students and alumni can be there to hear his amazing adventures firsthand. We're really proud of you Josh and thanks for being a great inspiration to all of us with your authenticity and work.
I am deeply grateful that I was able to visit with Josh at Obama HQ in Chicago this past June. Seeing the important and incredible work he was creating I couldn't help but reflect on the gratitude I feel for the opportunity to teach at City College. I know many faculty and staff who share that passion for our students. In 2014 SDCC will celebrate being a part of this community for 100 years. Graphic design will finally get a beautiful new building and lab for the centennial. For my part, I will look fondly back and forward, celebrating our inspiring students and their work, the dedicated teachers and chance to be a part of the SDCC graphic design family. For me that family will always be the definition of hope.
